Facilities
The House accommodates 38 residents in single bedrooms. The remainder of the House, including bathrooms, dining, lounge and computer rooms as well as laundry and ironing room, are shared facilities.
Bedrooms
Each bedroom has a single bed, wardrobe, small chest of drawers, study desk and chair, bookshelf, pin-board and waste bin. It also has a sink with hot and cold water and heating for the winter months. Each room has wireless access to internet.
Dining Room
The Dining Room is a gathering place for students and is open most of the day. It is closed between 9.30-10am and 5.30-6pm for cleaning and meal preparation.
Breakfast is a self serve meal with cereals, yoghurt, fruit, breads and juice available in the dining room.
Students may pack a lunch to take if they are out for the day. If home, they may prepare lunch from available supplies.
A home-cooked meal is served each evening at 6pm Monday to Saturday inclusive. For students unable to be at the evening meal, due to classes or work, a late meal may be arranged.
Common Room
The Common Room provides a place for groups to gather, watch TV or entertain friends. It has comfortable lounges, large screen TV and DVD/VCR player and some exercise equipment. There is an area that can be closed off for study groups. There is a basic photocopier for students to use at 10c a copy.
Computer Room
There is a computer room with 6 widescreen computers and two printers. Students are allocated a logon and password to access the system. Each student is given one ream of paper for printing. If this is used students then purchase additional copy paper from the office.
Laundry
Washing machines and a coin operated dryer are provided in the laundry. These facilities are available from 8.00 a.m. to 9.00 p.m. Mon-Fri and 8.30am to 9pm on weekends. Clothes lines are situated in the garden area. There is an ironing room upstairs where each student has a cupboard to store her iron and washing powder etc. - ironing boards are provided.
Family Flat
A self-contained flat on the premises is available for parents who are visiting Canberra. It can accommodate up to five, with a queen bed, a double sofa bed and a small fold-away bed suitable for a child. It has a kitchenette with microwave and small fridge. Cost is $60 per night for one person and $80 per night for two or more. Breakfast is included. Bookings need to be made in advance.
Parking
There are car spaces for 25 cars. Parking of motor vehicles or motor cycles on site will be at owners/drivers own risk. It is advisable that vehicles are appropriately insured and that all care be taken to ensure vehicle is secured to avoid theft. It is strongly advised that students purchase a steering wheel lock and use it each night.MacKillop House will not be liable for any damage to such vehicles or loss of internal accessories or other personal effects contained within a vehicle.
Those with push bikes may store them in a locked shed near the laundry.
